The Environment

I am not ashamed to admit (well, a little ashamed) that when I got into this race, environmental issues were not my main concern. Over the course of this campaign I've developed a much deeper appreciation of the many environmental problems that are facing us. Sadly, a little over a year ago I was just like most people. I understood that the environment, particularly global warming, was an issue, but I simply wasn't too concerned. If you want to see how deeply concerned people are about this pending crisis, watch traffic on 394 during rush hour and count how many SUV's go by in an hour.

Well, I'm deeply concerned now. In fact, outside of making sure our outrageous national debt gets paid down, nothing concerns me more.

Even if you dispute the fact that we are the cause of the earth warming, it is indisputable that we are rapidly increasing the carbon content of our atmosphere. It is also indisputable that we are not certain what the ramifications of such an act are, and it occurs to me that our atmosphere is the last thing we would wish to play fast and free with.

Again, I believe a key component to people's apathy is the demagoguery that seeps out of Washington. It is easy to deceive when you don't accurately report the problem.

As of yet, I do not have a detailed or concise position paper or environmental plan. Very soon, I will. I have brought on quite a few prized advisors on this issue, and I am working very hard. I don't pretend to know everything folks, nor do I have all the answers. I do have an uncompromising work ethic, and I intend to accurately report this problem.

It is time we elected leaders who have the vision to look down the road when considering public policy. We need to consider how deep an impression our footsteps will leave. We simply must have justice between the generations. We simply must leave this earth a better place then we've found it.
